Over and Above is the registered working name of the Northern Devon Healthcare
NHS Trust Charitable Fund and is the independent registered charity no.
1051463 which supports the work of Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust.
We fundraise Over and Above what the NHS is able to provide to make a real difference to our patients, their families and our amazing staff that treat them.
The NHS body is the sole charity trustee of the charitable funds in its corporate capacity. There is a Charitable Funds Committee which reports back to the full board (NHS Body) on issues such as setting the charity’s strategy, policies and budgets and overseeing the charities operations.
Our money is raised, held and accounted for independently from the Trust’s NHS funds and is spent exclusively for charitable purposes to improve the health and wellbeing of the NHS patients of the Trust’s hospitals and community services. Our spending, by way of grants to the Trust, supplements and enhances, but does not replace, the Trust’s own NHS spending.
The majority of our donors, and those who leave money to us in their wills, say that they would like their donations and legacies spent for the benefit of patients in a particular ward or department, or on a particular type of medical service. We honour those wishes by maintaining about 120 separate funds each containing money which has been given for a particular ward, department or service and which will be spent accordingly.
Your efforts, support and donations make a huge difference for patients; improving the hospital environment, buying state-of-the-art medical equipment and helping us to go way beyond the NHS standard. We support causes across the entire Trust in hospitals and our community services.
